I hate to say it, but I think most of the people on this forum will have achieved similar satisfaction in all the areas (a purpose for a walk, getting the family out, the feeling of being "in the know") you mention without the supposed added extra of finding a plastic box. Visiting these places is an end in itself. try it, you may like it.
as they say round here "EDUCATION EDUCATION EDUCATION!" - you're after the same ends, but here is a simpler and quicker way of getting there. unless you prefer the scenic route of course.
