Is it a henge, though? Or just a circular ditch?

http://www.canterburytrust.co.uk/news/projectdiaries/new_meads/

"In February this year excavation commenced. It soon became clear that the ring-ditch identified on the aerial photograph was in fact the large circular enclosure ditch of a henge."

Yet a few lines further on...

"...the site had been quarried for brickearth in the past leading to the truncation of the archaeological features. As a result any evidence for a bank external to the ditch, a characteristic of henge monuments, had been lost. "

So. No evidence of an external bank. It must be a ring-ditch then.

It says that the brick-earth quarrying did away with the bank, but without the evidence, surely that's just supposition?

Awful roads.
