I won't but surely the answer is to try and get everybody to work together instead of fight against each other. If we can put up a united front then surely the important ones might listen more Historic Scotland, EH, even the Govts Edinburgh, Westminster etc plus the local authorities (up here they've done well recently with local planners, landowners, archaeologists and architects all assisting each other), even local heritage centres. You'll always get individuals causing damage such as Priddy or Westertown, a cup marked rock buried by a farmer (needless vandalism is a disgrace in any form, who pays for it?). Saving some is better than saving none, it seems, up here at any rate (except at Menie) that message seems to be getting thru. So no sleep lost here except if the weather is bad tomorrow.

Very well said Drew!! Irony aside, your post holds a valuable lesson to us all - vandalism comes in many forms from being ill-informed, neglect, damage done knowingly in the pursuit of profit, and of the course the mindless stuff that seems to be a reflection of the hopelessness of some people's lives.

Where do we start ... information/education; information/education - has to start in the schools and outreach. TV programmes, museums, English Heritage (south of the border) and voluntary heritage organisations going out to schools and setting up school holiday projects as happened earlier in the year.

Keep on keeping on!

June

Thank you June, it's a simple plea, why can't we all get on. I only walk the mountains and hills so these places are recorded in some form, I take local history seriously, I've no points to score only sites to describe. It would be a tragedy if these places were forgotten about. I listen to old tales, its a joy to listen to old folks retell the stories of their youth (lots of that to come and present adventures), their stories should not be forgotten, it's yours and my history they talk about why argue. Vandalism comes and goes, its what you do with what we record that counts. From my point of view I'm well away from the arguments that happen down south but the 'bickering' drains. I might be tired of all the squabbles but when you see what Postie, Gladman, Sweetie, Strathie, Tiompan, Howie, the Irish sites, Blossom, Tex, everybody etc etc and yourself Tjj it inspires me and I can't understand, won't understand the nonsense that goes on. To many people have been lost to the TMA, we are all on the same side so lets get on. To some I might be a simple Teuchter but were I come from at least that counts for something.
