That's a classic convex slope for you. It's not the best way up. In future try the many ridges, six to be precise, and all good value for he effort. Sharp Edge is best, but requires great care, especially when wet, and under snow and ice demands winter mountaineering experience and equipment. The second best is Hall's Fell ridge.
