I'm pretty sceptical myself usually! However, whenever I've looked at the Avebury stones, I've always been suprised at how obvious the simulacra are, and how many of them there are. To my eyes at least it appears to be beyond coincidence.

My personal gut feeling is that the stones were chosen because of these simulacra, and positioned to make the most of them.

Still, I realise these things are not quantifiable or measurable, so I guess we'll never know for sure one way or the other.
