They certainly stand out with a bit of a squint, a pint or two of ale and an enthusiastic person replicating the facial expressions. Anyone trying to find more faces in stones should head over to Mother's Jam where with the right amount of encouragement you will see hundreds more.
I agree with of what you are saying with reference to the figure. I'm not sure the faces on the stones thing is a good comparison though. to me, a large number of the Avebury stones do appear to have quite striking simulacra of faces and animals. this is not to say that they were shaped like that on purpose or anything, but it could imply that they were purposefully chosen as "sacred" stones because of those simulacra.
