i was raised (oo-arrrrr) in the vale of the white horse, you could see the horse from most places in the vale and it's pull has remained since, i remember numerous school trips upto the horse (and iron age hill fort) and every time a different history emerged - saxon, roman, medieval. Whatever inspired it the White Horse is still unique in it's total abstracted design, like some pre-modern Picasso, at least other white horses in the UK actually look like horses...
Have you heard the legend that St George killed the dragon on the top of the neighbouring Dragon Hill? That's why there's no grass on top says legend.
