• Was your view of the landscape blocked by mounds etc?

No, tho from memory if you're appoaching up the hill from the village it's blocked by the hill until you're very close.

• can you see any water from the monument?

• is the monument situated on the highest hill in the area?

No, there are slightly bigger hills 'behind' the plateau-like bit it's on.

• how far away could you see the monument? was it easily visible from the surrounding landscape?

I guess you can see it clearly from the slopes of those hills above (I didn't have time to walk any further up!) but it's not at all visible from below.

• Did you feel surprised when you finally got to the monument?.

Um, no. It was where I thought it'd be from the maps and looked like it does in photos.
