yes, now is quite clearly the time for me to launch an attack on the artificiality of the Avebury circle

abandon the stones ... all they tell you is what they might have been like, according to the popular view of the day. They've been smashed, re-assembled, interred, exhumed, turned one way and another ... yeah, they're impressive and pretty fantastic in their own way, but they're a modern sideshow.

The real action is going on up on the Marlborough Downs and Salisbury Plain, all the way past Stonehenge into Salisbury and Figsbury Ring. Big stones, lovely. Sacred landscape, now you're talking ...
