I went to this talk on Saturday. Pretty interesting.
The main points that I toke from it were;
that excavations in south tipp have shown that there is evidence of mesolithic and neolithic settlement below the ground but very little of it above the ground.
The main period of settlement was in the early to late bronze age. There seems to be a settlement pattern around Cashel during the early Bronze Age where they settled near small turloughs that are dotted around the landscape.
Jean Farrelly author of the North Tipp Arch Inventory also spoke.
They are nearing completion of the South Tipp Inventory. The North Tipp inventory has 2500 entrys while she thinks that the South Tipp Inventory could have up to 4500 entrys and will probably be published in 2 volumes.
The bad news is that it probably wont be available until early 2010!
However she mentioned that much of what they have completed to date will be available on www.archaeology.ie including aerial photos and descriptions of sites. So that is great.
She also mentioned that the Limerick Inventory is nearing completion but she isnt involved in it and therefore she didnt give a date. So keep your eyes open for that.
