It's interesting that it gets no mention in Dixon's 'Whittingham Vale', so maybe the tale had already fallen out of use by the turn of the 19th/20thC. Hello Hob, Ive heard a few stories by word of mouth, about headless appiritions, and that travellers on the old coach road thought it was a "witches trail" It certainly does have an evocative feel. I had a look through Whittingham Vale as well..and read the lines that Dixon had wrote. I'll let you know when I get any sources for any folk lore about the place. Thanks for getting in touch.
