Infact the group was a pagan group who worshipped Woden...
One wonders why a group, who worship Woden, were in the Avebury circle in the first place; would they not they have been better off on Waden Hill or the Wansdyke? Then again, perhaps they were looking to impress the tourists, or had had one too many at the Lion and didn't quite know where they were (either in the mythological or geographical sense).
