The very fact that the Wilts militia knew they could ambush at Kennet also demonstarted they knew the Host were making for the only known reliable river crossing upstream of Newbury. This then meant that Bedwyn was THE place locally having grown in the safety of the viccinty of Chisbury fort and this demonstrates that Wansdyke was a road. Flip that took some getting to...
