You seem to be looking for certainty - prehistoric or not prehistoric. But that's unachievable in a lot of cases, they're "maybes" of differing degrees. So what's wrong with what's offered - add an argument in favour and leave it to the Eds to be persuaded or otherwise. Seems like the only practical approach to me.
