Me again...
I was in the library the other day, perched at a random table having a good old read of some technical nonsense, when I idly looked behind me to see a book about druids. I took the book and opened a random page to find this:

Is it likely that Avebury started life as a more straight-sided structure? Or is it more likely that Mr Aubrey got his dimensions slightly askew? Or is this as he found it after years of neglect?
Of course, the Avebury we all know and love is much more circular - http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/post/19433 - or is it my eyes making automatic corrections over such a vast area? I suspect not, but thought the hexagonal shape was an interesting image...
