That is the way I've always thought of it. The only actual account of Patrick and a serpent is in the Annals and relates to him killing a monster in Lough Derg. There must have been 2 of them because Finn McCool also did this a few hundred plus years before. Most of the things Patrick did are done by someone else in earlier stories. :-)
