Dear Kevin,
"Spam" is computer geek language for junk email. That is, advertisements sent by mass email to a bunch or people who didn't ask to be emailed. (Sometimes mass emails are sent to a list of subscribers to a newsletter or the members of an organization. Those "solicited" emails wouldn't be spam.)

Email reading and sending programs often have "spam filters," ways to try to recognise spam and put it aside for you to read or not after you look at the good stuff. One common way to identify spam is to check the email addresses you have in your email address book; in other words, your friends, relations, colleagues. If a new email comes in from someone NOT in your address list, it would then be considered spam: a stranger, danger!

Add your new contact person to your address book and see if that helps. Check your filters, too (you'll need to have your kids help you with that). Maybe his name or address resemble something bad, ooh!

Usually you can reply to spam if you want, just for the very reason you're encountering. If you can't, have your kids help you check out why. OK? Hope this helps a little.
