Some of the recumbent stones - 'the altar stones' - in Aberdeenshire recumbent stone circles are cupmarked and, trusting memory here, they face the south to west quadrant. If it's cupmarks in a new locality then any rule applies really.

You can set my trousers on fire after I say that finding your first 100 cupmarks is really exciting (it's downhill after that).

The moonrise specialist (our coordinator, if you like) is Victor Reijs - in Ireland. Google him up but he must be a fan of Cretan architecture (as his website is labyrinthine). Or something ! Try 'Reijs Moon Callanish'. I'm firing bonfire pots under the (nearly) Full Moon !
