"Surely you can see the difference between sequential phases of construction at Stonehenge and the wanton destruction of stone burning, breaking and burying at Avebury."

If looked at by the original builders of Stonehenge the subsequent stages could have been viewed as wanton destruction of their monument.

If Avebury was ever rebuilt to any stage then it should be hailed as a new phase, not a restoration to an older one.
