No sooner is it announced that the Stonehenge tunnel is a no go and the visitor centre fails to get planning perm - a letter in the SW local paper suggests moving the stones :
"The Egyptians moved Abul Simbel when they needed to create a dam. It still attracts many visitors, many of whom wonder at the fantastic achievement. I'm sure with a bit of thought and planning we could move these ancient stones and bring the A303 (which is a single carriageway at this point) into the 21st century."
The writer suggests moving the stones to Salisbury Plain, but I am sure we could come up with a better place -how about that nice little heritage park industrial estate they built down the road, or perhaps a coastal location so we could have boat tours ?
