I kinda think Avebury is a nice case of continuity
The people of the Neolithic coopted mesolithic sites, the Bronze Age folk utilised Neolithic sites, the christianisation of pre-christian sites. The moderrn druids are just carrying on this linear tradition. Find yourself a long-used site, sanctify it for your own purposes, create your own mythologies..bobs your uncle, fannies your aunt!
