Help save largest ancient wood in Wales

Wentwood Forest, near Newport in South Wales, is the remnant of a vast woodland that once stretched from the river Usk in south Wales to the Wye Valley. As well as being the largest ancient woodland in Wales, it’s also one of the largest ancient woodland sites in the UK. The forest contains two round barrows (see http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/site/7045).

Now 900 acres of it are up for sale, if commercial foresters snap it up the ancient woodland could be replaced with fast growing conifers radically altering the ecosystem. The charity The Woodland Trust is trying to raise funds to buy the forest and are looking for people to pledge money to help out, and for people to raise awareness about the issue.

Whatever you can pledge will assist, and also show that the people want this forest saved.
