" The four arms (in some cultures 3, in others 5) rotate round the centre-point;"
I have always considered St. Bridgid's (Brigit's) Cross to be a derivation of the swastika. It actually started as a three pronged device and developed four when Xtianity took it over in around 500ce. In its four armed form it is now one of the most powerful symbols of Irish Xtianity, as St. Brigit is held to be almost as important as Patrick, JC & Mary.
