But it is the only pub inside a stone circle, and a few weeks ago at Lammas, I sat outside with all the 'pagans' (they used to be called crusties) singing 'Hoof And Horn' and there's nowhere in the world I'd rather have been.

Avebury rocks!
Yes, I remember a great music jam inside the pub during summer solstice 2001...it had rained at Stonehenge the night before but by the time we got to Avebury the sun had some out and a rainbow covered the whole village...
spent the night by the stones and slept during the day at the Bronze Age round barrows off the Ridgeway track (three round hills covered with beech trees)...
I love Avebury and hope to get back there soon...
