The most interesting and useful advice I've heard so far about White Moor is the following from Burl's 'A Guide to the Stone Circles of Britain, Ireland & Brittany', which writes "…from whichever direction it is approached, take care over the morass of Raybarrow Pool, ½ mile long, ¼ mile wide, SX640905 to SX638894, a nuisance in dry weather, positively dangerous in wet, 'an extensive mire' wrote William Crossing, a veteran of Dartmoor, 'one of the worst in the moorland region' ".
