Yes, the Caledonian Mountains in Northern Scotland were around when the continents were all joined in one big landmass known as Gawanaland (or something like that), before they drifted apart. I love Lewisian Gneiss!! The hills around Durness are made of it and are wonderful... all worn down n' ancient...
Blimey, I've come over all geological.... I'm off to stare at a postcard of Scotland for a while!
