Aye, you're not kidding tiompan - they even nicked the Bartlow Hills from Essex and gave 'em to Cambridgeshire (I mean they didn't actually move the Hills to Cambridgeshire they moved the county boundary :-)

Not much in Essex at all, though Alphamstone's pretty impressive. There's a local story that the stones were brought from Wiltshire but there's little rock art there either. Think you're probably right when you say, 'possibly the stones have been chosen for their looks'. Can but hope though - maybe one of you cup and ring experts can get down here sometime and take a ganders.
