Blow Job

I understand what you mean... America and Britain were no better a hundred years ago, this is what I'm trying to stress.

China's really quite behind the west, still... the interior is still deeply isolated and poor (and backward).

We apply our modern western standards in judging them... I find myself doing it all the time. But you can't really expect someplace like China to just up and adopt our values overnight. It's a 4000 year old people who's culture is historically slow to accept outsiders.

If we treat China the way we've treated everyone else the west has considered 'backward' it's not going to lead to anything but trouble... the West only just yesterday (by Chinese standards) withdrew from its colonial, imperial period.

I hear you Dave, but I still think that their antiquity is nothing to do with it, or their suspicion of outsiders. The poor buggers in the interior are kept down and the general populace is oppressed apart from the relatively new and highly prosperous professional classes, plus the long standing elite. No wonder the establishment doesn't like outsiders, brutally punishes free thinker and dissenters, censors the internet etc.
They should be suspicious, as the game's up if not. Self preservation for the elite, that is all.
