Good news - Police Complaints Commission is to have an inquiry into the death of Ian Tomlinson.

The bad news - ‘City of London Police will carry out the inquiry on behalf of the watchdog.’

In other news: Alex Ferguson appointed as referee for Manchester United’s FA Cup semi-final against Everton.

They did something with a similar effect over here. Appointed a Police Ombudsman but he would inform the police of ongoing enquiries.
A lot of people who'd been on the recieving end of police brutality throughout the shellToSea campaign and especially november 10th '06 were initially delighted. They were then disgusted as they realised that anybody trying to complain about the behaviour of the gards involved would have the same gards informed that they were doing so. & these would be the same gards kept on duty supposedly policing the individuals complaining.
Nasty cycle.
