It's a highly symbolic chunk of land... obviously to the Palestinians, too.
Well if you're born there then not much you can do about being wallowed in the mire.
If you're moving there with a cloth backpack carrying all your posessions hoping one hell hole accomodates you more than another then ok.
But the 'religious statement' bit? No, that is often B.S, and I tell you for why.
I just heard this morning on the radio of some rich American Jews CHOOSING to settle in newbuilt housing areas (more or less gated communities) on land that has in effect denied thousands of Palestinians access to hospitals, schools etc that they once were able to use.
The UN know about it, they say 'it's illegal', but nothing is done
How is that in any way about a 'symbolic chunk of land' from the Palestinian point of view?
I say very plainly it's excaerbating the problem.
EDIT:
Infact here's something relating to it here.

*On Monday, the Israeli group Peace Now reported that the Israeli housing ministry was planning to build at least 73,000 housing units in West Bank settlements.
Almost 500,000 settlers now live in east Jerusalem and the West Bank. All settlements are illegal under international law*
