I tend to think the exact opposite. I think the holocaust casts a massive influence over the Israeli psyche and that you can see it manifest in almost every major political, military or security decision. It dominates Israel (indeed, how could it not?) and far from being some kind of "trump card", it's a massively destructive event, and the trauma it caused is destroying Jewish culture and taking down a whole region with it.
