Suppose I've got a bit ahead of my feelings here, and caught up in qutoing this one and picking up that one, so apologies.
My dad (and millions of other I assume) was treated like crap after the war, it was as if he hadn't mattered.
Like I said, a new suit and a tenner.
Wow.
That little bit of help he got at Xmas used to make him feel so important, so appreciated. It swelled the sweet old git's heart no end.
Then he gets a really cold letter reminding him 'how recently' he had help, and how funds have to be spread etc, despite the fact he had failing health at the time (as was made aware to them on the application form).
So he felt like crap, and I thought 'no way'.
WW1 & 2 brought the country to its knees like nothing else, and I think those old guys and their families ought to have come first, but maybe I'm just being too emotional there.
I've never been in the business of supporting anything by rote, if it's doing the right thing, then fine, but this was just not it IMO.
