The Flying Burrito Brothers - Farther Along The Best of The Flying Burrito Brothers

Cosmic Dead - Scottish Space Race

I've had a few weeks to let this sink in. Verdict: incredible, one of TCD's best yet. The new drummer lights a fire under everyone's ass, propelling the band to new heights of cosmic speed-metal insanity: absolutely bonkers and beautiful, with four epic cuts of unrelenting energy and imagination. Highest recommendation.

Mugstar - Magnetic Seasons & Serra (Distant Sun I & II) Robert Hampson Remix

I just discovered these Liverpudlian cats, and this week shelled out for their entire digital discography on bc. Still in the digestive stages, but you could say I'm blown away. So far, Magnetic Seasons is the most visionary of the lot: Post-punk krautwind, like an instrumental supergroup of the Chameleons and Neu! The half-hour plus motorik journey of Serra is on constant rotation, reminding me of TD's Green Desert, and in its loooong final, ambient coda of ART's atmospheric masterwork, Hallensee.

Comacozer - Mydriasis

Terrific acid fried psych of the highest order from the land down under.

Peace.

Bee Gees et al - Saturday Night Fever
Bee Gees - Spirits Having Flown
Bee Gees - Living Eyes
Bee Gees - This Is Where I Came In
(plus the albums I don't own, via Spotify: E.S.P./One/High Civilization/Size Isn't Everything/Still Waters - as expected the production is pretty dated on these and the songwriting leans a bit too much towards their naffer side, but there are some good moments)

Got to see Moon Duo on Friday night. Verdict. Incredible. They had a mesh cage which they played from within, whilst 3 projectors simultaneously projected graphics into, onto and through the cage/band. The most incredible melding of music and Visuals I think I've ever witnessed and worked fabulously. They played brilliantly as well. Great cover of Suicide's Jukebox Baby at the end. Here's a full performance from the current tour, though earlier in October i think, to give you the feel, though it doesn't quite do the visuals the full front of stage justice. Good sound though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goPcSExzTbI&t=4105s

The Whirlings – Earthshine. Second album from Italian space/post-rockers. Not bad, first track comes with decent Grace Slick-esque vocal: https://thewhirlings1.bandcamp.com/album/earthshine-2

VA – Ragged Glories. MOJO comp that either proves the immense influence of Neil Young or a failure of imagination when confronted with a certain type of grungy Americana – “oh, this sound a bit like Neil Young, dunnit…” A pleasant enough listen, nice to hear this again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avqTTGsciYY

VA – Jobcentre Rejects vol 2. Some good NWOBHM riffs, but inevitably not as good as vol 1…

Lucifer Was – Underground And Beyond. Bit of a turn up. Proggy hard rockers from early 70s Oslo got back together in the mid-90s to record their old material… and it’s actually really good, like a Viking garage take on classic Sabbath with added flute: https://guerssenrecords.bandcamp.com/album/underground-and-beyond

David Bowie (with John ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson) – The Mercury Demos. The upcoming Shindig has a cover feature on Bowie/’Space Oddity’ (oh, and yet another Hawkwind article from me!), which led me to have a listen to this – worth hearing for this version of ‘SO’: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7laET8WU4vA&list=PLNJirx02I6P71B0cDzBPhyYwaR63FidHn
