Soundtrack to my annual Shetland jaunt:

Clive Gregson & Christine Collister 'Mischief' - unusually ascerbic collection of Gregsongs slightly dated in sound but high on quality;

The Fall 'Dragnet' - after playing this I chanced upon Marc Riley in Lerwick's excellent Lounge Bar alongside the singer out of Elbow. Surreal, huh? Great record though, despite having the worst production ever;

Black Sabbath 'Born Again' - unfairly maligned Gillan platter with some ace songs, especially 'Zero The Hero';

Drude 'Black Sheep' - our man with fire in his belly and a sting in his tail. Beltin' gear;

George Harrison 'Let It Roll' - decent best of, though I'd've sacrificed the copout live versions of Beatles songs and the godawful 'Got My Mind Set On You' for better tracks from 'Dark Horse' or 'Living In The Material World', both sadly under represented here;

Soft Heap 'Soft Heap' - sadly disappointing set where the whole is well short of the sum of its parts. Remember all four of its late players better elsewhere;

Fairport Convention 'Unhalfbricking' - maudlin and
magnificent third LP from the classic line up.

That's me. Have a great week, all.

"The Fall 'Dragnet' .... Great record though, despite having the worst production ever;"

...that's the reason why it sounds such a great album.

...some of it even got a very rare outing at the london show last week...
