I've tried to submit some new sites lately too, without success or reply from the Ed's. Is this a general thing now, or has the process been changed.

I'm afraid there is some backlog of sites waiting for approval at the moment. Some sites are easier than others. I've just been through them quickly and approved those. The others will have to wait until one of us has some spare time.
