Vandalism

Is it new? Well, not <i>very</i> new, but it is dated 15th December. I don't read it that often (as you can tell), but do listen to their news podcast.

A'rite 4W's. Good to see that rumours of your virtual demise were exagerated!

The Swastika Stone is always getting hit... bloody shame really. The spikey railings may stop the majority of passers by from trampling all over it, but isn't hard to get around if you're determined.

The carvings near to Ilkley town are suffering badly of late. The place is full of bored kids with nothing to do. A few bonfire nights ago, we let off some fireworks down by the river and within minutes were surrounded by teenagers! The best way to save the carvings near the town would be to give under 18s a place to go as there's naff all for teenagers to do in Ilkley. It's all tea rooms and books shops.

Hi, FW,

This piece was part of a whole sequence done by the HA's Heritage Journal highlighting the vandalism and neglect suffered by prehistoric sites on Ilkley and Rombalds Moor. It started with 12A's:

http://www.heritageaction.org/?page=theheritagejournal&show=12,12,2005

and covered other sites in the area, including The Swastika Stone:

http://www.heritageaction.org/?page=theheritagejournal&id=111

The sequence ends with a call to action by Heritage Action:

<b>"Heritage Action is right now devising a campaign to raise local and national awareness of the sorry state of affairs in this area. We will call on all interested parties to come together to preserve, protect and promote these ancient places. We plan to launch the campaign in the new year.

Look out for our forthcoming Heritage Action Pack which will make it easy for you to write letters and emails to the authorities calling for action."</b>

I urge all interested parites to keep an eye on the Journal for the start of the campaign, and start revving up those genes of righteous indignation......

Peace

You will, of course notice that this is sourced from HA - http://www.heritageaction.org/?page=theheritagejournal
HA will be challenging the authorities to come up with a plan for the whole area in the new year. The moor is slowly losing its treasures through vandalism and erosion.

The 15th December was the last Full Moon of the year Fourwinds. Occultists maybe!

'but it is dated 15th December'
As Chief HA BlogMeister I confess I posted the item. It just happened to be 15 December when I posted it. No mystery.
