Was a great evening for it, almost completely clear so we got a great view. There was only a couple of American ladies there to watch it plus myself so it was lucky.

You could definitely do your eyes serious damage watching it though, one of the reasons I upgraded to the Nikon D300 was it's live view mode which is excellent for this kind of thing where you can observe it on the LCD instead of having to look through the viewfinder, and take shots at various intervals.

I'm putting together an animated Gif showing the full slide down the mountainside.

That looks thoroughly cool, Cian.
Do you know any more about the 'history'? The article you linked to
http://www.carrowkeel.com/sites/croaghpatrick/reek3.html
suggests Gerry Bracken spotted it. but he calls it 'St Patrick's Chair' - which could be a nice indication that people in the past knew about it. Perhaps. I mean most rock art doesn't get a name does it? ( the Patrick's Chair most people know about it is some rocks up the mountain, one of the stops on the pilgrimage.)

Those sun shots are incredible. Stunning.
