Um, Druid's Altar is (roughly) west of Grassington, quite a way. just the 'other side' of Threshfield, on the tops between Threshfield & Malham.

I've come across refs to the site you're talking about before, but never been able to suss it/devote enuff time to investigating.

It'd surprise me if it's Dumpit - wrong direction etc, but there IS a whole shitload of stuff near the 'circle' itself. Unfortunately the whole lot's swathed in heather & vegetation so it's difficult to spot what's what.

Fitz or Paulus might have some comments if they're around?

Oh, forgot to mention that the Druid's Altar is usually marked on maps as a cairn, but in my view, no way - it's a 4Poster. But it's pretty deffo not this one - too far away & wrong direction I'm sure.

I believe the henge shown north of Grassington is a pretty ploughed out earthwork and may indeed be a henge. Never got round to looking for it tho. Interestingly tho, I seem to remember it IS supposed to be south of an "ancient settlement" & field systems (which I HAVE seen) by a limestone pavement on the main path over to Conistone.

Bet that dunt help at all! ;^)

Brigantesnation MAY also know summat. I know he's been to at least some of the stuff round there - eg the Druid's Altar. (Tho he disagrees with everyone & thinks that's the remains of a burial chamber rather than a 4 poster.)

Bogg refers to it as the 'Druids Circle' and the only direction is south of the ancient settlement of grassington. It's a shame I can't show you to the image in the book but there you go. Maybe iif I get a scanner. It's probably Grassington A or B. The background landscape in Bogg's image looks similar to that seen in the photos on MA.

Anyone know anything about the Hunter's Stone? It's on the old road from Kettlewell to Leyburn, its in a field called Hunters Stone, which is next to a field called Great Hunter's Stone. The stone is about 1,5 metres high (see http://www.larkfall.co.uk/xetb-pics.htm). Before you reach it there's a cairn at the side of the road and a Brigantian dyke.
