Carney Commons

close

Down in North Tipp there is an area called Carney Commons, its one of them esker areas and there seems to be loads of cairn shaped mounds all over it. Ive looked at a few of them and to me they look like artifical mounds but they are not marked on the map. Is there any way that I can figure out if they are artifical or not? Or do u have to excavate?

If it's on an esker then it's quite probably glacial deposits forming the lumps. That said, the nice mound in Drumnigh, Co Dublin, was thought to be a natural mound until they quarried near it. It turned out to be one of the most incredible mounds found anywhere.
