Binghill

eliptical shapes

close

I recently checked out the Binghill stone circle, near Milltimber, Aberdeen on Google Earth and noticed in the fields to the north what appear to be numerous eliptical impressions of roughly the same shape and size. I realise they could well be artifacts of modern farming, but also wondered if they could be the remnants of cairns. I've posted a picture on the Binghill site so that you can see what I'm talking about. I look forward to your thoughts and comments.

Could they be to do with mining? There are round hollows in the ground like these in the Peak District and they are from lead mining. They also remind me of the Grime's Graves landscape.

There are two cairns in the woods beside the circle, one due east and another to the south west. Maybe these are drainage points as that area above the circle often floods. I'll try and get some answers for you.
