Edited! Please disregard previous comment, have read back a few posts, all is clear. The archaeology part, the first two thirds of the book, held me. But then we got into genes and I just couldn't keep up. He may be a cunning linguist, but he lost me totally in Chapter 9, The evidence of language.
Overall a good read though.
