Don't think they were permanent, as there were kids with them. The main group was up at the circle, but there were also some right down by the road. It made me embarrassed to be both a camper and a stone-nerd. I try to camp on small farm sites, and never leave anything behind, particularly on the rare occasions when we have camped wild, certainly would never consider lighting fires on bone-dry moorland. Sorry, must stop ranting.

The last time I was there the stones had seen a 'party' the night before.

The whole area was littered with people who were using the site as a free doss.
Many campfires, fuelled by limbs ripped off the trees around the stones.
It was the first time I'd visited, and I was met by a load of pissed-up twats having ghetto-blaster wars. Nice.


And to think that folks fought to save this place from the encroaching quarry...
