What sort of beast was this that you found at Rowtor Rocks? Were you scared it was going to have you for dinner?

(or is it my failing eyesight and overactive imagination)

Sssshhh. It's asleep. Tiptoe away.

Is it it possible that many of the legends and folklore associated with sites happened because people happened across things like this on a moonlit night and had the crap frightened out of them? Another thought, are the old strange animal visitations the ABCs beloved by Forteans?

Ask Mr Peterson - it's a seal!

I thought it was a serpent, everyone else seemed to see a sleeping dog :-)

As for Rowtor Rocks itself - that is a truly amazing place, not what I had expected at all. It's really hard to communicate in a few photographs what it is about the place. If anyone ever gets the chance, while visiting Nine Ladies etc. then go there. It's a great place to finish off the day.

Nick speaks the truth... it's a seal! arf arf arf

My vote?
A tortoise.
Did they have them in those days?

It seems to me that this thread, and the fact that this photograph was included on TMA, speaks loudly of the innate human sensitivity to such natural sculptures. Is it completely untouched by human hands or has there been some sculpting of the eye?

Is it just me or does this one look a bit like ET?
