Hi, Moss is the dog, I'm Thelma and live down in Weston. Put six photos on site, at least my son put them on for me. They are fairly self-explanatory, you can see the resemblance of the coxcomb stone to the Bathampton one. There are a lot of smaller shaped stones around, often with pointed tops, I think these were kerbing stones. The dumped barrow lies under the ridge at the viewpoint, but a long way to the right, going towards the gate of the Cotswold way.
ST.Alpege well seems to lie under Heather Cottage on the map, the man threatens to shoot dogs if they go on his land (pheasants), so havent been there. But, interesting fact...........
There have been 2 spoon shaped bronze objects found near a spring at Weston and to quote Mike Aston "are almost certain ritual in purpose and may indicate a religious site here but this is about the
total of the evidence"(Dobson 31).
Could be that they were found at the well, the Roman coffin suggests, apart from muscling in on other peoples religion, that they were. I think they are probably early I/A got a picture of one found in London. Bit like christening spoon with a hole in the bowl of the spoon.
Its a fascinating area up there and I think points to long term settlement, far more important than Roman Bath.
Anyway thats it for now, keep in touch. Liked your textile work of the gold sun disc.
Best wishes
Thelma
