I'm still wondering whether they'll stick to the original plan of allowing free access to anyone who chooses to avoid the visitors' centre. I'd be surprised though.
I find it unclear. All except the central bit is NT land of course so that has to stay as free access, but to charge for access to the EH bit would involve manned gates and fences and it has been announced that the only fences will be stock fences.
Yes, absolutely. That's exactly why I'm unclear myself. If they intend to charge, I don't see how they will enforce it in the absence of fences and gates.

In fact, I've seen somewhere that there will be styles over the stock fences.

If that's right it looks very much as if you pay to go on the land train but not to go onto EH land, i.e. if you walk there you get in for free - which is more than you can do now.

(Or is it? If you walk up from Stonehenge Bottom to the right of the road you'd have to pay to go through the tunnel but if you go up to the left of the road has anyone the right to stop you going onto EH land?)

There's a ticket kiosk in the VC and a set number of tickets per hour will be issued. But then there's this....

"the closure of the A344, together with the removal of two fences, means people will once again be able to walk along the Avenue and up to the circle.
The view is one of the best, with the stones gradually emerging out of the landscape. But visitors will still not be able to get right up to the stones; they will be intercepted by staff and asked to pay the admission fee" http://www.theguardian.com/culture/2012/jul/11/stonehenge-27-million-makeover-a344
