Well yes, but it’s still an iconic and something-to-be-proud-of place. It’s always going to attract visitors in their thousands, but at least now they’ll be getting a better experience for the time and money they spend there.

The new facilities are never going to satisfy everyone - though it’s probably not too late to suggest (insist?) on some things – like quiet (electric) vehicles from the Visitor Centre to the monument – no advertising on them and painted in a colour sympathetic to the landscape: that actually seems to be the intention if English Heritage’s Proposals for Stonehenge video is anything to go by.

Sounds more like Tesco's every day! Thank goodness I came from an age (just) that had free movement within the stones and wasn't influenced by all the garbage spoken about it and profiteering from it over the years.

Aye, I come from that age as well – a time when my kids could run round the stones and even climb on some of them... tsk ;-) But times change, hammers are no longer given out for a bit of the monument to take home with you, and the tatty fast-food/souvenir/tunnel experience that’s still there is soon to be zapped.

We can’t change the Stonehenge attraction Mr S – like the Giza Pyramids and the Taj Mahal people will come in their millions to see it. What we can do is keep an eye on what’s on offer and work towards making it as good as it can be.
