Seriously though there's going to be a big light show at Stonehenge just before the Olympics and no-one thinks that'll be a bad thing, so....
Damn right. It's the 21st century, and we gotta move with the times! :D

I still think a massive rotating glitterball in the middle, mirrors on the inner faces of the stones, and some strategically placed lasers to aim at the glitterball. It'd look ace!

Who WOULDN'T pay to see that? :D

Yes and Sir David Beckam could open it prior to playing for the English footy team as a reward for his help in organising and promoting the Olympics :-)

Well, EH has said "As the stones are in our care, we have to consider whether introducing light onto the monument and into the World Heritage Site will genuinely enhance people’s appreciation and understanding of Stonehenge."

I guess they think neither glitterballs nor Golden Balls will enhance people’s appreciation and understanding of it whereas a massive booze-up inside and on the stones at Midsummer will. It all seems a bit muddled to me. Either it should be treated naffly or it shouldn't, don't you think?
