Why is it any more valid to preserve it how it is now, rather than to how it was before people started restoring it?

When the rose window in York Cathedral got trashed in the fire, whydidn't we just leave a great gaping hole in the building?

You're trying to turn my thread into a joke, I know what you're doing.

No, No, No. I'm deadly serious.

Forget Stonehenge as it stands - it's false anyway. Yes restore it for all I care, but let folks wander around it afterwards. I **love** the drive-thru monument comaprison, that's exactly what it is now. Disney with rocks.

Just imagine, though. A 10 mile approach to the fully reconstructed version across Salisbury Plain passing a different evolution of the monument every mile or so!!

I'd make that walk!
