when recently visiting stone henge i noticed loads of burial mounds

do you think that originally they formed a circle all the way round stone henge?

and also the last visit to stone henge, i got the early pass to go up close to the stones, they are massive close up, and i thought getting in there would answer some questions, but being that close to them just made more and more questions.
i cant actually work out how its been done.

The whole history of Stonehenge is too complicated to go into here. there are zillions of books about it but it is worthwhile starting off with some of the more sober accounts.
A pretty good up-to-date one is "Solving Stonehenge" by Anthony Johnson (Thames and Hudson) which has a good overview of the legends, the placing of the stones and an interesting new theory of how they were set out.

I’ve posted a couple of plans of the Stonehenge area as there didn’t seem to be one on here (or I couldn’t find one anyway). One is a straight ahead plan and the other is overlaid on a satellite image.

Regarding how Stonehenge was constructed try Anthony Johnson's 'Solving Stonehenge' (Thames & Hudson 2008)
