'Just a touch speculative' Wondered when someone would question 20 foot fence ;). Did they measure by the depth of the postholes? were there enough tall trees round or did they use hurdling as well?
And words to put ones nerves on edge..elite caste, priests and lower classes, are we into slaves now ;)

The palisade as a screen has been around a for a while now and came with the whole visual packaage of the punters getting a view at "ceremonies " held at all monuments , the increase in size of fore courts allowing greater number of viewers etc ,it does make some sort of sense but I'm not too convinced about the screen aspect .

Slavery like warfare and sacrifice tends to get passed over in British prehistory but thanks to literacy we do know that it was common contemporary practice elsewhere e.g. Mesopotamia , China etc . should we expect it to have been any different here ?

No certainty about slaves - but an elite with special access and proles without, evidently, and that's still being maintained 5,000 years later...

It's scary to think that up until a short time ago the current elite were hell bent on driving a massive road through that pallisade.
